He's ONE!

{This post has been a long time coming, but we've been busy :)}

Dear Thomas,

I can't believe you are already one!  I remember the first time I saw you as the doctor laid you on my chest, and right away, I just knew you were perfect for us.  You came early. You were tiny. But, you were perfect.

That first week of your life was one of the hardest and most joyful I have ever experienced.   We got an immediate taste of parental love & concern.  We could not believe that we could love you so much, so fast.  It just happened.

You came home jaundiced, we had a lot of trouble breastfeeding and you seemed lethargic and dehydrated.  You were already under lights for the bilirubin, but I knew something was wrong.  After consulting your Aunt Jen {so thankful for a sister who is a pediatrician}, we called our pediatrician who sent us right to the ER.  Your daddy and I were so scared, but the Lord sustained us.  This wasn't how we imagined your first week of life going.  After an IV, cath, drawing blood and plenty of other tests, we were sent in an ambulance to the Children's Hospital.  I'd never ridden in one before and as I saw you strapped in your car seat to the gurney, I just cried.  Two full and very awful, sleepless days at the hospital and a whole lot of prayers and you had gained a few ounces, were less jaundice and they sent us home. As if that weren't enough, next the pediatrician heard a heart murmur and sent us right to the pediatric cardiologist.  God provided an appt. that day with an amazing doctor who explained everything to us and put our fears to rest.  You were born with a small hole in your heart, but you didn't need anything to fix it.  It would close on its own.  A day later, you were officially off the lights.  We never would have survived the stress of that week without your Oma and Papa- what a blessing they were, just when we needed them!

God taught us right away that you were His and He was in control. It's a lesson that He is constantly reminding us of.  He already has a plan for you and He loves you even more than we do.

So much has changed in you this year.:
- You've grown an entire foot.
-You've gained 16 lbs.
- You've gone from breastfeeding, to bottle at 10 months, to cup of milk
-You've learned to roll, sit, walk, pull up, crawl, run {working on this right now!}, grab things, feed yourself, climb, clap, sign more and all done, point, say mama, babble, play, and so many more things!
- You constantly smile, play games, laugh and interact with us
- You went from wearing newborn clothes to size  6-12 and 12-18!

I could write so many things about this first year of your life, Thomas, but the most important is that God has taken care of you and us throughout it.  He has always protected and provided for us and He will continue to do so. Your sweet little life started with a lot of prayer.  And I think I've prayed more this year than any other year in my life.  We will continue to pray for you as we take on year two, three, four...as long as we are here to do so, we will pray for you!  We love you so much, little bean.  You are such a joyful addition to our family!

Happy Birthday!

Love,
Mama

A year of Thomas

That's right! Our sweet baby boy turned one today! It's hard to believe so much change in a little person can happen all in one year.

Check back soon for 12 months pictures and birthday festivities!  I've also got some great projects to share. Oh, and if it takes a few extra days don't be alarmed, we're heading out soon to meet my sweet new niece and I plan to get as many newborn cuddles in as I can!!!!  My hands {and heart} might be too full to type....but I promise I'll get around to it!

balloons

Last Saturday Thomas had his first experience with balloons.  He thought they were pretty cool, though a little overwhelming.  Oh, and the ribbon {of course} was tasty :)

Old {yet, modern} MacDonald

I knew Old MacDonald needed a hat because he greatly resembled Moses, but I wasn't sure exactly what I was going to do until my friend, Elizabeth, suggested that I add a John Deere hat. Perfect! Thus, here is the modern Old MacDonald.  I made the hat part myself and then printed off a picture of the deer to cut out of the yellow felt {which by the way was extremely hard--so many tiny cuts!}.  I think it paid off though! You can see the rest of his farm here if you missed it.

By the way, we had a small, early birthday party for the bean since my parents were in town from Paris.  I'll be posting lots of fun pictures soon and a 12 month post after he officially turns one!  For now, here's a little teaser....

We're so thankful for this wonderful, happy little boy!
