in the Moby with Daddy...

It's been beautiful here the last 2 days- the calm after all the crazy storms we've been having.  Yesterday afternoon James took a break from studying and we took Thomas on a walk!

Not sure he wants to put his head down yet...

still thinking about it...

Well, alright :)
Thomas wanted to keep his head out and look around for a few minutes. As we started walking, he promptly fell asleep (as usual!) and James tucked his head inside.  I think we all enjoyed a bit of time out in the great weather!

As for sleeping, Thomas has been doing pretty well.  He had 3 great nights of 5 hour stretches (which means I am only up once around 3am or 4am and then get to sleep until 6:30am or 7am- GLORIOUS) and then went back for one night to eating every 3 hours (= very tired mama)!  I am pretty sure that he is in a growth spurt because he has been waking up early from his naps to eat and eating more frequently in general.  Last night, he did one 4.5 hour stretch so I was pretty happy about that!  We are just taking it one day at a time.  Thankfully, he usually naps pretty well during the day too :)

Well, i've got some things to get done before the little one wakes back up to eat and then we are going to take a long walk in the sunshine! Happy Saturday!

Tomorrow I have my 6 week check-up with my OB.  It's SO hard to believe that only 6 weeks ago I went to my 37.5 week appointment and was sent right to the hospital to be induced.  My OB was actually going to let me be more lenient on bed rest since my BP was good.  She decided to do a quick ultrasound just to check on Thomas and I'm so glad she did because she found that my amniotic fluid was too low for Thomas to stay put...SO right to the hospital i went!

Yes, it's hard to believe.  It's even harder to believe that I looked like this:

And then after laboring for almost 15 hours (don't worry I had an epidural and didn't have to suffer that long), this little beauty came along:
Little T fresh from the oven- dry skin and all (what can you expect when he was in liquid for 9 months :)
A lot has happened in 6 weeks!  We are slowly adjusting to life as a family of 3 and falling more in love with our sweet little Thomas each day!  He is so precious!  I love when he cuddles his face into my neck after he's done eating.  I love his little grunts and sounds.  I love to watch him with his daddy. I just love EVERYTHING about him!  He's grown quite a bit since he was born, though he still spends most of his day eating, sleeping and cuddling!

sleeping makes him happy!

He truly is a sweet little blessing from the Lord!

In other news, I am going to try to jump back on the couponing wagon starting next week!  I haven't gotten a newspaper in SO long so it will be a slow start as I build back up my coupons, but after all these weeks of high grocery bills, I am itching to get back to saving money!  Maybe I'll share some deals with you?  Oh and I am also going to work on getting back to writing our story!

Last night Thomas slept for 4.5 hours in a row!!  Can I just tell you how awesome that felt???  I haven't had 4.5 consecutive hours of sleep in 5.5 weeks!  It was glorious! And although it might not be here to stay yet, I am thanking God for at least last night!
Thomas doesn't usually nap in his lamb chair, but the other day I was trying to help him calm down and get a little drowsy before putting him in his crib.  I went to get dinner started while he enjoyed a massage (the chair vibrates:) and when I came back 5 minutes later, this is what I saw!  So happy, so adorable and SO asleep!

God is continuing to sustain us during this time with little sleep and navigating through being new parents.  It certainly hasn't been easy, but we are resting in the fact that our Heavenly Father is taking care of us and holds everything together!  We know that Thomas is a sweet blessing from the Lord and we are just trying to take everything a day at a time and enjoy him!

Col. 1:17- "He {Jesus} is before all things, and in him all things hold together."

a few random pictures of the day to day!

Here's a part of our new nightly routine before bed.  Thomas loves listening to his daddy's voice and falls asleep within minutes!

I tried the Moby wrap today for the first time (thanks Laura!)!  We had to wait until he weighed at least 8 lbs. which he has surpassed and can I tell you that he LOVES it?  He feels so safe and close to Mama that he instantly falls asleep- perfect for shopping!  We have a Baby Bjorn carrier that we have used, but he easily gets fussy in it because of the position of his head.  I think he will like that one more when he gets older and can look out.  BUT for now the Moby  is PERFECT!  I would highly recommend this to anyone with an infant:)

Hanging out with Daddy :)

Loving on Mama

Looking snazzy in his cute outfit

The next 3 pictures are just some of the expressions we often get from Thomas!  He is smiling already, but not really at us yet- it's more spontaneous.  We are looking forward to seeing his social smile soon :)

On that note, it's time for a nap!

Matthew 28

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.  Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.  Suddenly Jesus met them“Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.  Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

.life with Thomas.

It's not that I don't have time to blog- I technically do have the time when Thomas is napping, I just choose to use it differently {like for napping too!}.  Our little guy is 5 weeks old today!  And while I am still mostly in a state of fogginess from lack of sleep, it does seem to be getting better or maybe I am just getting used to it?  Either way,  things have started to settle down a bit.

Thomas is such a sweet baby!  We feel so blessed to have him in our family!  He is starting to show his little personality just a bit and spends more time awake during the day, which i love!  At his one month appt. this week, he weighed 9 lbs. 3 oz, so he is REALLY growing- especially considering that he was down to just 6 lbs. during all of his jaundice and hospital tours!  I already had to put away some of the teeny tiny clothes that we had to buy since nothing fit him when we got home!  No more onesies for 5-8lb. babies.  He has finally grown into some of his 0-3 month clothes, although most of them are still pretty big on him. And he is still in newborn diapers, but not for too much longer.

Here are a few pictures from the past few weeks:
We get this look a lot :) Bath time!

Thomas gets LOTS of kisses from mama...

And Daddy...

He loves to put his hands up by his head {which is how he was in my belly on every ultrasound}

And enjoys playing on his back and tummy!
He no longer fits in this little outfit:(

Oh, and he gets a REALLY big tummy after he's eaten!
Well, that's a bit of what's been going on...there is so much more that i could share, but i think i might go read for a bit before Thomas wakes up to eat again!  We are going to try to go to the Good Friday service at our church tonight {hopefully he will sleep right through it} and stop by starbucks with our thermoses to get free coffee for Earth Day! All in all, it should be a good night!

our little love

I know I haven't been around much- but as you can see, I've been pretty busy with my little love!  Anyway, I thought you might enjoy a quick picture {if anyone still reads this blog} to show that I haven't fallen off the face of the planet! I am going to try to update more tomorrow {no promises though}, but for now, I am headed to bed....since I'll probably be up in 2 or 3 hours! Oh, uninterrupted sleep, I miss you!

ps. I am going to bed BEFORE the 2 year old upstairs. ridiculous. how do I know?  well, let's just say that he unfortunately sleeps {or should i say plays while we try to sleep} right above us.

I only put Thomas in his crib for naps about half of the time during the day.  I know this isn't probably the most "babywise" approach, but I don't care. I absolutely love to let him sleep on my chest and I'm pretty sure he likes it too.  I love to cuddle him. And even when he is in his crib, I am tempted to just stand and watch him sleep.  He's just so, so sweet!

Mama peeking through the crib slats while Thomas sleeps

I think it's safe to say that I am utterly smitten with my little love!

life with a 2 and 1/2 week old

I think this picture sums up what we have been feeling at our house lately!

Having an infant is SO tiring and I don't think anyone can really prepare you for how you will have to survive on short naps between feedings instead of actual sleep.  I think I may be in a perpetual state of fog.

We absolutely love our sweet little Thomas, but mama certainly won't mind the day he decides to sleep longer without feeding through the night:)

{For the record, we have been blessed with a wonderful baby.  Even if we swaddle him and put him in his crib awake,  he goes to sleep and doesn't cry!}

I'm rocking my baby...

The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!

I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

James Thomas Bush

James Thomas Bush
born March 18, 2011 at 12:52am
6 lbs. 12.7 oz.
18 inches long

I know I'm biased, but isn't he just the most beautiful thing?  He came 2 and 1/2 weeks early and is SO precious!

I have been MIA for awhile, but can I just say that the last 2ish weeks have been absolutely crazy!  And it's not just because we have a newborn.  When I went to my doctor's appt. on March 17, I had no idea I was going to head from there right to the hospital to give birth to our sweet son!  And it got crazier from there: I'll write the whole saga of the first 7 days of Thomas' little life later, but for now I am just happy to finally be at home {not in the hospital, ER or children's hospital} with a no longer jaundice baby who is sleeping soundly in his daddy's arms!  Can I also just say that he's the SWEETEST baby I have ever met?  He has a great disposition and is super easy to calm when he does cry- queue the paci!  We are really enjoying and thanking God for our precious son and for protecting his little life in these last few crazy days!  It's hard to believe that he is already 2 and 1/2 weeks old and we just passed my due date on Sunday.  Little Thomas has already grown to 19 and 3/4 inches long and has surpassed his birth weight!  We are praying that he continues to grow well over the next few weeks!

We have a billion adorable pictures to share, but I'll save more of those for later!
