happenings.

I've been doing some watercolor painting lately for Thomas' room! I really wish I could share what I made, but I feel badly since I looked at someone else's creation and made it myself.  I do this a lot- it's just so much cheaper than buying it! So, if you want to see it, you will just have to come to my apt!

Oh, and I think I found my new home project.  My mom is coming to visit this week (yay!) and I am going to enlist her help to paint J's old dresser that is currently holding Thomas' clothes and the desk that is set up as his changing table.  Poor J has been rearranging a lot of furniture for me, so that my life will be easier!  Now, just to decide on a color.  Neutral or something more colorful like light green? I am really leaning towards the green- that room could use some color!  I can see the furniture already with new paint and pulls...I love what paint can do! Lots of pictures to come. Get excited!

Well, I've got some cleaning and cooking to do this morning before heading out to shop with a friend:) Sorry this post is not super exciting....I think I have blogger's block.

34.5 weeks!

Week 34 has come and gone, so this picture is at 34.5 weeks. Thomas is hiccuping ALL the time now and moving just as much, if not more.  My ribs and hip bones are constantly getting banged up and I can no longer stretch out enough to prevent it!  According to this website, our little boy is about 5.5 lbs. and 20 inches long, though he may actually be bigger since he was measuring a week ahead at my last ultrasound!  He's still gaining about a half a pound each week:)
This might be the last week i can wear this shirt!

My sweet, crazy photographer

Tonight, we are heading to tour the maternity ward at our hospital, so that we know exactly what to expect when we go for the big day- although I kind of already know. Hopefully, I won't end up back there again beforehand! My bp has been great since this, so I am thinking I am in the clear for now! Praise the Lord!

Anyway, I'm having a pretty uneventful week, which has been so nice since I've been so tired!  Lots of great extra rest for me! Off to make an early dinner before we leave (J is grilling!).

random musings...

What a great weekend! Jen and Joey came to visit us for one last rendezvous pre-baby and I didn't take one picture.  Not one. and neither did anyone else!  Ridiculous.  So I have no photos to share, but we made plenty of good memories shopping, eating, picnicking in the park, going to see this and just hanging out together.  As usual, the time went too fast, but we are looking forward to their return this spring to meet little Thomas!

Today, I went to Target to get some Finish dishwasher detergent that I had coupons for.  We don't need it now, but I know we will use it eventually and it was basically free.  Actually, it cost me $0.06. Do you want to know the embarrassing thing?  I never have cash, so I had to pay that 6 cents with my credit card.  I laughed. The old man behind the checkout seemed less enthused.  By the way, our dishwasher is working splendidly!  I feel so happy and free not spending my days scrubbing away at the sink.  I honestly didn't know what I was missing!  We figured out that for now we will probably only have to run it about twice or maybe three times a week because it's so big.  I LOVE it!

I've been wanting to do some home projects or something, but I can't really put my finger on what.  Maybe in the next few days I will think of something fun.  I still have a few unfinished projects that I need to tie up, but I just don't feel like working on them right now....

I'm currently over 34 weeks pregnant and getting ready for our son's arrival!  Just a few things left to get before he comes and we'll be all ready.  It's really hard to believe that I am due in less than 6 weeks- I feel like it's going so fast.  We are praying that God will bring little T close to on time or even just a bit early, so that J won't have to make up as many important tests and projects for school.  Either way, we just can't wait to hold him!  I'm starting to get a bit uncomfortable doing things I used to think were easy- that's one thing I won't miss after Thomas is born.  Oh, and he is still moving like crazy- it's comical just to watch my stomach when he gets going!  We didn't take our regular 34 week picture this weekend, so I might have J take one tomorrow and it will just have to be 34 and 1/2 weeks.  You won't believe how big my belly has gotten!

I think that's all for now. I am thankful for an uneventful week for both J and I.  It's so nice to have him home at a decent hour:)

sirens.

Yesterday, I passed three of these just on the way home from Home Depot. Three!
Sirens always make me think back to when I was in 2nd grade and attended a small Christian school in Schenectady, NY.  The school was an old 3 floor building that housed K-12 and elementary classes were located on the top floor of the building (see picture below).

The building didn't have air conditioning (though it appears they have added some window units!) and for the most part, we didn't need it since we attended school from Sept.- June and the weather in NY is much cooler than the south.  BUT there were some brutally warm days and my teacher, Mrs. Baker, would often open the windows and run the fan to get fresh air.  Especially when the windows were open, you could easily hear the surrounding city noises.  I'll never forget hearing ambulance and fire truck sirens in that small classroom because my teacher always did the same thing.  Whenever we would hear sirens, she stopped whatever she was doing and we would pray for the people that were affected by whatever tragedy was happening.  I can remember her telling us that it didn't matter that we didn't know exactly what was going on because God already knew.

To this day, when I hear sirens, I follow the example of my teacher.  It's a habit now that I've kept for 18 years.  And yesterday, after stopping to pray so many times in the car, I started thinking about how thankful I am that I've had so many godly people influence me for the Lord in my 24 years of life.  My parents, of course, come to mind first and foremost as they have continually guided and pointed me toward the Lord, but there are so many others that the Lord has used along the way who poured time and energy into me!  Some who probably don't even know or remember doing it.  It makes me not only thankful for the faithful saints in the body of Christ, but spurs me on to want to work hard for the Lord.

It reminds me of this verse...Galatians 6:9 - "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

So, that's what I've been thinking about the past few days.

By the way, I went to the doc today and she gave me back my freedom!  My BP was normal and everything looked good, so I am back to doing what I want...and that means spending a FUN weekend with my sister and brother-in-law!

No motivation...

Here is the current state of my kitchen sink:

Pathetic, I know. But ever since we ordered this, my motivation for washing dishes has "gone down the drain"- so to speak.  Not to mention that I am supposed to be resting, right?  And poor hubby is too busy to even think about dishes!  He barely has time to shower this week! GE called to confirm that it will be arriving between 9:30-11:30 am tomorrow!  HOLLAR!  Now I will already have a full load to try it out:)  At least, that's what I keep telling myself....

Oh, and I bought this for the first time in my life.

There were so many options at the store and I didn't know a thing about any of them, so hopefully this will work out well.  Of course, I had a coupon for it. The capsules of detergent seemed way easier, but I'm cheap:)

Here's to no more wrinkly hands,

The All in Cafe

So, this is where the baby shower was!  Cute, right?  It was originally a farmhouse that James' great-grandfather grew up in!  Cool, huh? Of course, it has been added on to and changed some over the years, but still quite charming!

As for my technical problems, they are temporarily fixed...

Happy Valentines Day,
R

ps- Pray for J this week. Poor guy is SUPER busy!

NKY baby shower

On Saturday, we headed up to NKY for a super fun baby shower given by Sara, James' sister with the help of my Mother-in-law! Thanks so much girls for all the hard work! It was beautiful and SO fun! It took place in the upper room at a super cute restaurant called The All in Cafe. There was so much good food and we were so blessed by all the wonderful friends and family that attended! Thanks to everyone for their generosity! Without further ado, here are a few pictures:

Mom B reading out the answers for a game where you had to guess the prices of different baby items

Sara handing out the prizes :)- {notice the cute decorations in the background}

I did a lot of fun present opening for sweet Thomas :)

some guests watching the action:)

I had the best time seeing people again and we got so many wonderful gifts for Thomas. Now, we are almost officially ready for his arrival!!

Oh, Happy Day!!!!!

On Wednesday, this is going to be delivered to my door:

Yes, it's true! I am SO excited. No seriously, SO excited!  We have been married almost 3 years and have never had a dishwasher.  Let me just say that I will never live anywhere, ANYWHERE without one again!  Now, I won't have to spend hours of my week scrubbing dishes!  Praise the Lord! I don't even care that it will have to sit in our dining room when it's not hooked up and that I might have to rearrange furniture to make it fit because it's a bit bulky. I am just SO thrilled to have my very own dishwasher. Ahhh, the good life!

PS: I am 33 weeks pregnant (woah!) and had a blast at the baby shower this past weekend....pictures and a post all about it to come! Stay tuned:)

What a week!

What a week!  I had my (almost) 33 week appointment at the doctor's on Wednesday.  Let's just say the day didn't go exactly as planned.  The nurse took my blood pressure which was elevated for the first time EVER.  Thankfully, it was not enough to be diagnosed with preeclampsia, but enough to make my doctor want to check on the baby and put me on modified bed rest for the week.  She sent me over to the hospital for tests and an ultrasound.  I immediately called J to tell him to pray and give him the update.  Thankfully, he's so great at calming me down and offered to come right away.  I told him to wait a bit and see what happened since he was at school.  Here's the good news: Thomas was doing great!  In fact, he is a week ahead in growth, weighing over 4 and 1/2 lbs.  It was nice to see another sneak peek of my little one on the screen.  The ultrasound tech even said she could see he has hair! :) I guess he was destined for that since both my hair and J's hair are extremely thick!  I'm hoping he eventually has curls like his daddy!  As soon as I saw that he was ok, my bp checks (every 15 minutes for a few hours) were completely normal again- hovering around 107/55.  They also did some other tests to make sure everything was ok and decided that I could go home.  And on Thursday, I talked to my doctor who said that I don't have to just lay around on the couch all week- I am allowed to get up some and do little things, just nothing at all strenuous and with lots of rest in between.  No long walks, shopping trips, painting (why would i do this anyway at 8 months preggo?),  being on my feet for long periods of time, etc.  My doctor also okayed me going to our baby shower on Saturday (which I am SUPER excited about!).   I am also supposed to take my bp everyday to make sure it doesn't go too high and so J has been doing that for me.  Not once has it been elevated since! We are thanking the Lord for his protection over our son and me! And praying for a continued good report of health!  I go back to the doc on Thursday and am really praying everything turns out normal!

On a happier note, here's what I woke up to this morning:
From a very yummy local bakery:)

My husband is so sweet to me!  We decided to celebrate Valentines Day tonight since this weekend is busy and Monday night isn't great for us.  He has some more surprises up his sleeve (including some kind of yummy dinner) and so do I!  Hope your weekend is as splendid as ours!

*dust*gusting...

Yesterday, I briefly told you that I had J take down the fan blades so that I could thoroughly clean them. My friend, Beth, commented on how I was inspiring her with my cleaning and I thought I better make a quick confession.  Awhile ago (before I was 8 months pregnant) I tried to do the easier "stand on a chair and wipe" method, but the dust was SO caked on that I could not get it off.  And because I had loosened some of it, we could no longer use the fan because dust would fly off the moment we turned it on. GROSS!

So, the only way I could get all of the dust off was to take the blades down to clean them!  I took a quick before and after picture to show you how bad it really was...

The nastiest part is that these fan blades are from the guest room/ nursery and they were even less disgusting than the dining room ones!  Phew.  Let me just say that I am glad that this is done! Now I just have to get the handyman to put them back up...

32 weeks pregnant!

I'm 32 weeks pregnant, which means I am 6 weeks from full term and 8 weeks from my due date!  Holy cow!  I think Thomas is starting to get rather squished as he continues to grow because his little toes (at least that's what I think they are) are constantly jabbing underneath my ribs (read: OUCH) and I am constantly using the restroom (tmi?).  J and I are both starting to feel so excited about meeting our sweet son!  According to What to Expect When Your Expecting, he weighs almost 4 lbs. and is about 19 inches long.  This week (number 33), he will likely gain another 1/2 lb!  I head to the Dr. again on Wednesday for a regular check-up.  I feel like I am practically living at the doctor's office these days, since I have to go every 2 weeks.  In just a few weeks, I will be going every week!

We do have some really fun plans before little T makes his arrival! We have another baby shower coming up this weekend given by J's sister, Sara, and I am getting super excited about it!  I promise to post pictures when I have them!  We also get to have some fun visitors- Jen, Joey and hopefully Mom- in the next month!

Well, off to finish cleaning the second set of fan blades.  J unscrewed them from our fan so I could thoroughly clean them. I don't even want to tell you how disgusting they were....and then off to church!

Happy Friday!

Yesterday I finally went to the dentist for a cleaning.  Yes, I know I am married to a dental student, so I should probably be better about this, but....I'm not.  It's been like 2 years (yikes!)!  They did quite a bit of scraping and polishing, told me to floss (I already knew this was coming) and sent me on my way with a new toothbrush I'll probably never use because we have a wonderful OralB one.  According to the hygienist, I have beautiful teeth and the dentist found no problems! Yay! James was so proud! Unfortunately, my gums are still a bit sore from all that prodding!

Anyway, I thought I would post a few more pictures from last weekend.  We had a quick photo shoot on Sunday before jumping the car to head home:

My BFF Loa

With my awesome sister...

Uncle Joey and Aunt Jen...almost!

Our family (31 weeks pregnant)!  Is it possible to take a normal picture?? :)

a little better:)
I'm not really sure what's on today's agenda.  To be honest, I'm still in my pjs! I haven't been this lazy in awhile, but it feels great:)  J is at home today since he doesn't have class, but is going to spend the day studying because he has a big test coming up! Boo.  So, I'm sure I'll find something to get myself into....

Happy Friday!

a few home projects and a busy day!

What a busy day!

I woke up around 7 so that I could see hubby before he left for school.  He ran down to catch the bus and realized that he didn't have his school ID, which means he couldn't ride for free! He also didn't have any cash.  Sooooo, back home he came and I slipped on some jeans and drove him to class.  Then I headed straight to the grocery store (crazy bed head and all) to get the ingredients to make lasagna and salad for our friends who are in the process of moving.  When I got home I made up the lasagna, washed dishes, flipped laundry, dust mopped, cleaned the bathroom, dusted, and put some things away that were laying around!  Ay!  After that I jumped into the shower, ate a snack, got ready and left to babysit for the same friend who is working on packing up!  I just got back home and am about to make some lunch, relax/read a little (maybe a short nap? I think I deserve it!) and then have another friend and her adorable son over this afternoon:) Fun!

This week I have also been working hard on some home projects...

First I created a little more of a mail/office area:
BEFORE

AFTER (i still need to put the labels in the letter bin)
Then I started covering this beauty (it's still a work in progress):
BEFORE

DURING
No final picture yet because I still have to cover the top cushion, but it's already looking soooo much better (besides not matching!) What do you think?  Well off to eat!

A baby shower

Sorry for being MIA lately- this past weekend we headed to the beautiful and sunny south for a baby shower for Thomas! Can I just say SO FUN?  I had a blast seeing faces of friends and family who came to celebrate with us and received so many wonderful things for our son!  The shower was at my pseudo-sister-in-law's (aka my sister-in-law's sister, Sarah....complicated!) house, which is SO cute by the way!  She did a great job decorating and making the shower just wonderful, as did my sister, Jen, and sister-in-law, Lauren!  I'm so thankful for sisters!  Thanks ladies for all the hard work to make it so beautiful! Thanks also to Tammy (Lauren's mom) and my mama for helping and bringing delicious food!  I have a million wonderful pictures thanks to my awesome resident photographer, but I figured I had better just pick a few to post:

Sarah made the banner and diaper cake! Don't they look SO good?

Love the blue punch:)

With my Grandma and my sister who came up from Atl to spend the weekend and help with the shower! Thanks Jen!

Isn't the cake adorable?

SOOOOO good to see my sweet Clemson friends!  I miss them!

More Clemson/ high school friends! Love them!

Some guests concentrating on a baby word scramble!

A quick picture with Oma (who is getting so excited to meet little Thomas)!

With all the sweet hostesses- Thank you SO much!

I did a lot of this while talking with friends and family:) Oh, and the clothespins were for a game that I was terrible at!

And a lot of this! Thanks for blessing us with so many wonderful things everyone!  We are so grateful!

My sweet BFF who came up for the weekend! Thank you SO much for coming all that way, Laura! I love you and miss you already!

adorable party favors!
At the end, the women had a time of prayer for our family which was such a blessing to me and of course made me cry.  I cannot help but have my heart feel so full when I look back on this past weekend.  It was just wonderful!  Thank you, everyone, for all of your sweet generosity and taking your time to come.  It meant SO much to me!
