our pumpkins- can you guess which one is mine?

Friday night we had a bunch of friends from dental school over for caramel popcorn, hot apple cider, snacks and pumpkin carving (obviously).  It was a lot of fun and everyone's pumpkin turned out really cool! Next year I will remember to buy tea lights so we can all light them at the end.

Oh, I am officially 18 weeks pregnant!  James and i will take a picture this afternoon and I will try to post it tomorrow:)

PS- can you see why I am soooooo excited for James to get a really nice new camera after Christmas? Oh to have better pictures!

17 weeks and 2 days...

We forgot to take a picture this week for week 17 so we're a little late, but better late than never, right?  I feel like I am looking more and more pregnant. What do you think? I even had the gusto to park in the expectant mother parking at Walmart today.  It was raining and the spot is so close to the door:)
I've gotten some really good deals on maternity clothes lately! Yay!  I bought a maternity camisole for under other shirts which I definitely needed as my other one is no longer meeting all of my pants! Haha. I've also scored some cute cheap and comfortable shirts- like the long sleeve one in the picture:)

We put together the crib last night! Yahoo!  It looks so great in the guest room and fits perfectly:) Thanks Mom Bush!  I will do a post soon and let you see a picture- although right now it's mattress-less and has no cute sheets or anything yet.  I am trying to decide if I want to paint the guest room/nursery before the baby comes. I would probably do a neutral tan (to match the rest of the room) from  pottery barn's paint. I think it would warm up the very white walls, but i'm not sure it's worth it.  Opinions? I also was trying to think of something cute to go above the crib on the wall.  I don't want it to be anything heavy or breakable in case the baby ever got to it and pulled it down.  My sister suggested looking at decals they have for walls- great idea!  I know there are some really cute ones and i think there are websites that you can customize your own- FUN!  I will keep my eyes open and let you know what I decide to do.  Right now the wall just looks so bare!

Off to relax and take a bath tonight- my back is killing me!

Things i flushed down the toilet today (don't worry- G rated)!

Curious about the title?

We have this great little above the toilet shelf in our bathroom complete with 6 baskets to store things that I got at a garage sale for $7 last year.  Truthfully I don't like the look of these kinds of shelves (even if they are really nice), but we pretty much have to have one because we have almost zero storage in our tiny bathroom.  To date (well, before today) I have only had one thing fall off the shelf and land in the toilet bowl-a tube of mascara.  It was a small casualty that happened right after I got the shelf and it made me a lot more cautious even though the mascara was only a cheap tube.  For some reason though today I had trouble.  Can I blame it on being pregnant?  As I was getting ready to brush my teeth this morning, I carefully hurriedly put the toothpaste back on our shelf....it was a little unstable and PLOP.

Ugh and gross!  Goodbye Crest Pro-health- no way I am ever putting you on my toothbrush again!  I finally had the bright idea to use a Kroger bag over my hand (the way some people pick up dog poop) so I wouldn't have to touch the toilet water. Crisis sort of averted.

I went about my day and forgot about the whole thing.  When I got home from running errands I took off my headband and went to put it away...in the basket on the shelf.  For some reason it practically sprang back out of the basket as I was putting it in...and PLOP. Are you kidding me? Twice in one day. I guess I should start closing the top lid of the toilet.  I was much more upset about this mishap.  Toothpaste I can handle (I never pay for it anyway- thanks to CVS), but my cute black headband from Charming Charlie?  So sad.  If you've never heard of Charming Charlie, click here. You will NOT be disappointed- although we don't have one here in Louisville! As I fished it out of the bowl with another Kroger bag, I felt like I was having a funeral. Oh well, at least I can go back and get another one someday when we visit alt!

In more serious news, my Grandma Keiper has been having some health problems lately.  Nothing too serious, but we welcome your prayers for a quick recovery and no complications!

Our little onion...and more!

Baby Bush is officially the size of a large onion- about 5 1/2-6 inches and 7 oz!  I can't believe that in less than 3 short weeks I will be halfway through this pregnancy and in less than 2 1/2 weeks we will know if it's a boy or girl!  How exciting!  Don't forget to vote!  I am feeling great most of the time although I tire easily and if I don't eat right when I wake up- it throws my whole day into on and off queasiness.  I also get really carsick!

By the way, our nursery/guest room is slowing getting put together!  Here is a picture of the new glider that Mom and Dad graciously gave to us! Thanks guys! Doesn't it look great in there?  James' mom is giving us the crib and it is coming this week! So fun!  I will take lots more pics once everything is put together!

James and I have had a really fun weekend!  We spent Friday night out and about on a date and doing some shopping:) We also picked up pumpkins that we are planning to carve sometime in the next week! On Saturday, we got up early and headed to Ikea.  I absolutely love Ikea and we enjoyed spending time in the kid's section too.  We bought just a few little things for the house. On the way home we stopped by to eat lunch and hang out with James' mom for a few hours.  Then we headed home and went right to our neighborhood chili cook-off and bonfire.  We had a lot of fun catching up with people who we don't run into daily:)  By the time we got home, I could barely lift my head.  I think I ran myself ragged all day with all that go, go, going!  We conked out really early and slept for about 11 hours! WOW!  Thus, today has been a fairly lazy Sunday! My favorite!

The week ahead looks better for James which is GREAT!  No big tests on the upcoming horizon- so hopefully he can get some good sleep this week and have a little time to relax.  He is working so hard this year.  I am looking forward to the 2 weeks he has off at Christmas so that he can truly take some time to rest!

Already dreaming of Christmas...

It's true- I have already been Christmas shopping (a little) and creating and it's only mid-October!  I just can't help but get excited early especially when I have some good ideas for presents.  I worked last night on the coolest project and it turned out AWESOME!  I actually saw the item in someone's Etsy shop and knew I could recreate it:) The only problem is I can't show you it because my sister reads this blog and it's her Christmas gift.  I must admit I am so tempted to keep it for myself. I guess you will have to wait until December to see pictures!

Oh, I tackled paper flowers today...
Cute, right?  Watch out family, there will be no bows on your Christmas presents this year-just recycled paper flowers! Obviously they won't be purple, but I had this paper lying around so I decided to try making them. If you are interested in making these- they are SUPER easy.  Check out this really cute blog.  It has all the directions you need!

Topic change: I went to the Dr. today for a regular appt. The doc said I am healthy and the baby's heartbeat was strong at 140 bmp.  It was so neat to hear it again.  She said I should be feeling the baby moving in the next few weeks:)  I also have only gained 2 lbs. since my last appt. 5 weeks ago!  Eating whatever I want has been working for me, but I am sure I will start gaining more soon.  Only 3 more weeks until we find out if it's a girl or boy! Soooo excited!

week 16 and projects...

Here it is...the week 16 picture! I am pretty sure it's safe to say I am growing slowly....

J and I stopped in the Motherhood Maternity store and I picked up some leggings and jeans. I can still wear the Bellaband with regular clothes, but stretchy clothes are so much more comfortable- even if they are a bit big right now. I have basically been living in a skirt that I picked up at a thrift shop for only $4 with my mom, sister and sister-in-law in SC. I love it. It's so comfortable, but in these quite chilly mornings my legs were quite cold and my old tights and leggings felt too tight around my middle- problem is now solved. It was actually really funny to try on the "belly" that they have there so you can sort of see how you will look. It's hard to believe I will get that huge:) At least J thinks I will be cute!

Oh yes, did you want to see my adorable duck?  He has a bean bag inside of him and is oh so soft! The pattern was very simple compared to making a shirt!

And here is what Mr. Duck (or for that matter Mrs. Duck) did to the guest room with it's adorable white, fluffy, soft fur!  It was EVERYWHERE.  If you think that looks bad, you should have seen the fleece I was wearing!  At least the vacuum sucked it all up and now that all the seams are sewn, there is no more shedding.

Are you wondering what the next project on the agenda is?  I have two things I am thinking about doing right now.  In SC my mom and I found these super comfortable and cheap parsons chairs at a thrift shop for the ends of our dining room table and she and dad offered to buy them for us (that way if we have more than 4 people at the table, no one has to sit in rolling computer chairs)!  Thanks guys! The only problem is that they are have super ugly fabric!  My mom bought one for her computer desk and already recovered it- it looks awesome. I admit that I am a bit scared to embark on sewing a cover without a pattern- I am not as talented and experienced as her.  SO I am currently looking for a slipcover, but if I can't find one I like I may end up sewing one....I will let you know if I do!  My other possible project is easy-painting a lamp:)  I have a gold lamp that was a hand-me-down from my mom, but no other gold in our house, so I am thinking of spray painting it red?  We shall see.  It definitely needs something if I am going to continue to use it:)

Well, off to enjoy a lazy sunday afternoon! i love Sundays!

New *handmade* shirts!

Here they are- my new maternity shirts!  Aren't they cute?  The best part is that I sewed them myself.  The brown paisley one on the left I made with the help of my mama while we were in SC.  Not bad for my first time sewing with a pattern right?  I did my best to soak up all the pattern lingo and learn everything I could from my talented mother before heading back to the bluegrass.  Yesterday I started shirt #2 and finished it today- all by myself!  I think the red color will be perfect for the upcoming holiday season.  Both shirts have plenty of room for Baby Bush to grow- so hopefully I can wear them for a long time.  In fact, they look a little big on me right now, but are so comfortable that it's not stopping me from wearing them.  I went to Joann's yesterday and I just wanted to buy a bunch more material and patterns and sew, sew, sew. BUT I think I better take it one project at a time.

More to come about my next project soon...

Oooops.

Somehow I have already missed the 15 week picture. I promise that I have a good excuse....

We spent the weekend in SC with my family and had a fabulous time!  I even learned how to sew with a pattern.  With the great guidance of my talented mother, I made my first maternity shirt:)  It's so cute and comfortable that I am wearing it right now(and i still have lots of room to grow)!  I feel like a real seamstress now and already purchased fabric and cut out the pattern for shirt number 2.  Yahoo:)  I will blog soon with pictures of my new creations!  Next on the sewing agenda is a cute little duck for the nursery!  There are just so many things to make using patterns and so little time....

I am 15 and 1/2 weeks pregnant now and my stomach is steadily growing.  I will do my very best to take a 16 week picture so you can see the difference.  I go back to the dr. next week, so hopefully we (me and baby) will continue to be healthy!  We appreciate your continued prayers!  Oh, by the way, I am officially off the anti-nausea meds, although occasional queasiness still sets in, I feel great and more energized most of the time! Praise the Lord!

Gone to Carolina in my mind...and soon my car!

Well, in a matter of a few days my pants do not button comfortably anymore!  Yes, I can still get them barely buttoned, BUT I can't stand to keep them that way since they are so tight and uncomfortable!  I guess it's about that time for my belly to start growing! I am about 14 1/2 weeks and Baby Bush is about 4 inches long and weighs 2 1/2 ounces.  I am finding myself hungry much more often and getting REALLY excited about this little one!  I can't wait until I can feel the movement of Baby Bush, but it will probably be a few more weeks until we feel anything.

Oh, by the way, did you know that we are heading to SC this weekend?  We are super excited!  It's been almost 3 months since we've been there and I am having a craving for all things south!  We get to see my whole family since Jen and Joey are making the trip up to SC from Atl too! Yahoo! And enjoy a few days away!  Mom is going to teach me how to sew with a pattern...to date all of my sewing has been without and I am SUPER excited to learn.  I am sure I will blog about it and post pics.  We are making something for the baby:)

Well, I'm off to pick up poor J who has been working late in the lab:(  Pray for him as his year is a hard and crazy one!

14 weeks...my first "bump" picture!

You'll have to forgive that I look tired in this picture....I am tired- I'm pregnant!! Haha, after J and I kept saying how we should take pictures of me sideways to log the progression of my tummy-we finally did.  This is really the first week you would even notice a small difference.  As you can see from my 14 week picture, there is a slight bump appearing and my pants are feeling tighter and tighter around my middle.  When I sit down my first instinct is to unbutton them!  I guess I might have to invest in a Bellaband in the the next week or so! Right now, my stomach constantly sticks out like I ate a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts- but that's ok, it's for a good cause!  We are going to try to take a picture each week in the same place so you (and we) can see how much I grow.  Do you think by March my stomach will be to the window?  I'm not sure:)

Off to take on week 15....
